Why support Mac.Rob?
___

Since opening in 1934 - almost 90 years ago - Mac.Rob has left an indelible mark on the countless students who have passed through our halls. We are a unique and important part of Victoria’s educational system, providing opportunities and enrichment for young women and gender-diverse young people, and our students become incredible contributors to their communities and leaders in their fields.

We help to shape these future leaders by creating a strong sense of belonging, fostering a love of deep, curious, and creative learning, and developing each student as a whole person through participation in diverse co-curricular and leadership programs. Many past students tell us that their lives were transformed through their experiences here.

As our historic campus nears its centenary, we are constantly seeking ways to ensure our learning environment enhances the learning and experiences of our students. As educators, we want to provide facilities that match the capabilities of our students. We are continually challenged by the costs of modernising and improving our ageing buildings and grounds. The heritage listing of the school leads to significantly higher costs than other schools.

The Mac.Rob Building Fund allows our community to help contribute to the improvement and restoration of our school’s historic facilities and buildings.

Current Improvement Projects.
___

Kingsway Science Lab Conversion.

At Mac.Rob, we’re constantly trying to improve the facilities for both students and staff, even in the absence of government school funding for building works. In the past 35 years, the school has received only 4 million dollars from the government for capital works or improvements, which was used (along with another $4 million of school raised funds) to refurbish the ground floor of Lakeside and the Theatre in 2022/23. All additional improvement works, other than maintenance, require our community to raise the funds.

To improve our students’ access to practical science studies, we are excited to share that we are converting an existing classroom in the historical Kingsway building into a brand-new science laboratory. With 70 science classes running as part of our yearly curriculum - spread between only 7 existing science labs - senior students are given priority in these spaces for the completion of their VCE course work, leaving students in Years 9 and 10 to regularly miss out on practical classroom experiments and experiences.

While we do have the funds to action the conversion, we will only be able to achieve a basic “shell” of the new science laboratory, requiring additional furnishing to bring it up to the standard required for our exceptional students.

Our students deserve quality facilities that match their ambition and commitment. You can help us with that.

If you are able, we are calling on our school community to donate to the school’s tax deductible Building Fund this end of the financial year. Your support will go directly toward the refurbishment of our new science lab, allowing the school to allocate matching funds to purchase the required equipment, and opening up the possibility of future projects.

We thank you for any contribution you can make, big or small, to help us continue to create a high-quality environment for our outstanding students and staff.

Boundary Fence Project.

In 2024 - after a significant investment of time and much hard work - were were excited to announce we had secured all of the necessary approvals to proceed with the construction of a new boundary fence. Given our proximity to Kings Way, one of Melbourne’s busiest roads, and the publicly-accessible Albert Park Lake, golf course, and sports centres, a fence along our front front boundary has long been sought to improve the safety of students and staff.

The completed boundary fence has already made a substantial difference to the wellbeing and security of our students. Two of our Year 9s, Aarya and Diti, have a special message for the friends, families, and community members who supported our fundraising initiative and contributed to the construction of this invaluable new addition to our grounds.

Building Fund.

Every donation to the Building Funds contributes directly towards projects or upgrades identified by students and the Mac.Rob School Council as being beneficial to the education and wellbeing of our student. The maintenance of our historic campus is an ongoing project, and we are constantly seeking ways to provide our students with improved communal spaces, classrooms, and grounds where they can socialise, engage, and learn. A donation to the Building Fund will help ensure that generations of Mac.Robbians have access to the best teaching, learning, and wellbeing facilities possible.

To donate to the Building Fund, please select from the pre-determined amounts below, or alternatively, donate an amount of your choosing.

Mac.Rob Foundation.

The Mac.Rob Foundation is a philanthropic organisation dedicated to supporting the education and advancement of young women in Victoria. The Foundation’s scholarships and bursaries empower the students of Mac.Robertson Girls’ High School, both past and present, to achieve their educational goals.

Available across a wide range of subject areas and interests, our annual grants program includes scholarships and bursaries to recognise and reward academic excellence, to assist students experiencing financial hardship, and to support postgraduate study.

The Foundation has supported many young women to achieve their academic aspirations through valuable donor contributions. Here are some of the ways your donations make a difference:

  • $50 can help buy a laptop to assist a young woman in financial hardship.

  • $250 can help buy a musical instrument for a gifted musician.

  • $1,000 can help a postgraduate student attend an international research conference.

Whether you're a current student, a family member, or a graduate, there are a number of different ways you can get involved with the Mac.Rob Foundation and support the education of our students.
